How Anyone Can Become an Inventor: My Journey and Method

How Anyone Can Become an Inventor: My Journey and Method

Most people believe that inventors are born, not made. But the truth is, anyone can become an inventor, including you. I’m Jarrel Byer, a master inventor who has created standout products like the Pop-Up Card Wallet and a rolling tray with grinding studs—innovations recognized for their uniqueness and practicality.

What sets me apart from other inventors is that I don’t just invent; I teach invention as a skill that anyone can master. That’s what my platform, Invention Skills, is all about: empowering people to turn ideas into patentable, market-ready products.

My Educational Background

I attended a Roman Catholic primary and secondary school in Trinidad and Tobago. In primary school, I ranked in the top 100 students in the country, outperforming 99.999% of my peers on national exams.

In high school, I focused on science and business subjects, with compulsory courses in math, English language, and literature. At that time, I was on a path that could have led me to become either a doctor or a priest. Even with priests living on campus, observing the stress and regrets reported by doctors abroad made me reconsider my path.

I realized I needed to look inward to determine the best career for me.

Discovering My Path as an Inventor

To better understand myself, I explored personality frameworks like Myers-Briggs, 16 Desires, and multiple intelligence types. Through this process, I discovered I am an INTJ with a desire for power and romance, and possess strong visual and logical intelligence.

This self-discovery guided me toward inventing. I didn’t know how to do it at first, but I believed I could master the skill of invention. Over time, I developed a groundbreaking rolling tray invention for grinding cannabis, learned patent law, and drafted my inventions in proper patent claim format.

I tested my inventions through the patent office of Trinidad and Tobago, where citizens benefit from free patent searches. After multiple approvals, I knew I had mastered the skill of creating patentable inventions.

How I Developed a Method to Teach Invention

Along the way, I didn’t just invent; I created a method to train myself to master invention. I also earned diplomas in coaching, mindful practice, social media marketing, and sales, which allowed me to teach invention as a practical, repeatable skill.

Here’s the truth: inventing isn’t just for naturally gifted inventors or billion-dollar companies. With the right method, anyone can learn to create world-class inventions. That’s exactly what I teach through Evolutionary Inventing, the method I developed to guide aspiring inventors worldwide.

Why You Should Learn Invention Skills
